Soul Retrieval
Shamanic Healing for Soul Loss

What is a Shaman?
The shaman has one foot in our physical world and
one foot in the spirit world. Shamans treat the spiritual causes of
illness by traveling between these two worlds to retrieve ancient wisdom and
lost power.
Shamanism is not a religion. It is a
spiritual healing practice in which the shaman journeys to work with his spirit
teachers, power animals, medicine helpers and allies to get information and
facilitate healing.
What is Soul Loss?
Shamans believe the soul is free to leave the
body. When we talk about the soul in this way, we are describing our life
force, our essence, that part of us that keeps us alive and thriving. Soul
loss occurs when a part of the free soul leaves the body and does not return on
its own. There are many different ways this can happen.
Soul loss can occur as a protective mechanism.
For example, part of the soul leaves to avoid injury when a person is involved
in an automobile accident, or to avoid dealing with grief after the death of a
loved one. If a person is in an abusive situation, the soul may
leave to try to protect itself from the abuse. War, trauma, abuse,
divorce, death, surgery, addictions and natural disasters can all be causes of
soul loss. The soul leaves the body in an attempt to survive the
experience.
We can also give away parts of our soul to those
we love, such as our spouses, children, family and friends. We may
do this voluntarily in an attempt to protect our loved ones, or to try to share
ourselves with them. In fact, this sharing of our soul burdens the other person.
Why? Because that person cannot use a soul that is not their own.
Just as we can give away parts of our soul, we
can also take parts of another person's soul. This is called soul
stealing and it can happen innocently, without even meaning to. For
example, a person who is very sick may look upon a person who is vibrant and
healthy and say "I wish I had their energy", and he takes some of it, thinking
he will feel better. Or an old person may look at a beautiful child and
envy his youth. Again, the soul part he has stolen does not benefit him
because it is not his own soul.
How do I know if I have Soul
Loss?
Soul loss is comparable to the psychological
concept of disassociation. The lost soul fragment may function separately
and independently, and even without memory. The soul fragment waits
in the non-ordinary reality (the spirit world) because it doesn't know when the
trauma is over and whether it is safe to return.
The physical symptoms of soul loss include
fatigue, addictions, depression, sadness, a feeling that something is missing,
loss of memory, apathy, hopelessness, suicidal tendencies, post traumatic stress
syndrome, low self-esteem, neediness, jealousy, resentment and self-sabotaging
behavior. The person may try to fill the spiritual void by obsessing over
material objects.
What is Shamanic Soul Retrieval
and how can it help?
In a Soul Retrieval, the shaman journeys to the
non-ordinary reality and retrieves the soul fragment with the help of his spirit
teachers and allies. The shaman then blows each soul fragment back into
the body, slowly and with the intent of filling the person's body with this
vital piece of lost soul.
Each person's experience after soul retrieval is
unique. You may feel more joyful, lighter, more present and grounded in
your body. You may become conscious of unhealthy behaviors and feel
the need to change those behaviors. You may experience an
improved state of well-being. You may be able to move forward on an
issue that has been troubling you. The difference may be subtle and you
may not immediately recognize the difference.
What can I expect during a Soul
Retrieval?
Prior to working with you, we will create sacred
space - a safe environment for the work being done for you. We
will ask you to lie down in a comfortable position. If you cannot
lie down comfortably, you may also sit in a chair.
We will discuss with you your reasons for
requesting a Soul Retrieval. We will then journey to our Spirit
Teachers and Medicine Helpers in the non-ordinary reality and ask for their
assistance on your behalf.
It is important for you to understand that the
Spirits do the actual work of the soul retrieval, and their guidance is crucial
for success. Nothing could be done without their help. The Spirits
may take us back to the place and time where your soul loss occurred. We
may or may not be given the reasons why the soul departed. We will get as
much of your story as possible, but please understand that these details are not
necessary for a successful Soul Retrieval.
Typically, one to three soul fragments may be
returned. We adhere to the counsel of our Spirit Teachers on these
matters. At this time, we will also ask whether there is a Power Animal
that would be willing to assist you with your healing.
The healing process does not end with the Soul
Retrieval. Following your Soul Retrieval, you will need to welcome
those parts of yourself home, and to integrate them back into your life.
Your practitioner will discuss this with you at the conclusion of your Soul
Retrieval Journey.
This can be done in many ways.
You may wish to celebrate by having a dinner party, setting a place for each
part that is returned. You may wish to go to a movie, talk a walk in
the woods, etc. Only you can know the best way to celebrate
the return of your soul.
Things You Should Do to Prepare
for the Journey
-
Get plenty of rest the night before your Soul
Retrieval appointment.
-
Avoid all recreational drugs and alcohol for
at least 48 hours prior to your appointment.
-
Feel free to bring a friend. Sometimes
there are emotional releases during a soul retrieval. If so, you may
want someone there who can support you during that process.
We are happy to help you in every way we can
during this process.
