Buddy's Gift
I have always believed that animals pick their people, and not the other way around.  That's how I got Buddy.   I just opened the front door one day and there he was.   From that moment forward, Buddy was my dog.   I knew Buddy's owner, who often kept Buddy on a chain for Buddy's own protection.   Somehow, Buddy had gotten off of the chain and made it to my house.  At that time, Buddy was already an adult dog several years of age.  He stayed at my house for some time under an implied consent, until one day his former family agreed that he could stay with me permanently.

Buddy was an extremely nervous dog.  His legs twitched and trembled uncontrollably, even when he was at rest.   When  I sat in my front porch rocking chair, Buddy always performed  what I called the "circling the wagons" maneuver.  Round and round my chair he went, legs shaking and whimpering nervously the entire time.   He was never still.

Yet for all this nervous behavior, Buddy was an extremely loving and compassionate dog.   Every afternoon when I got home from work, Buddy welcomed me home with a gift, usually a pine cone, which were in abundant supply.   Sometimes it was something he had "borrowed" from a neighbor, especially if someone happened to lay down a work glove (my gift in the picture above).  Once I got a large white teddy bear with a red ribbon around its neck.  Another time I got a small blue teddy bear with a blue ribbon around its neck.  If I ever surprised Buddy with my arrival (meaning he did not have a gift handy when I got home), he improvised.   I always keep napkins in the driver's door of my SUV.   One day I turned to get my cell phone and my wallet, and when I looked back at Buddy, every single napkin I had was hanging from both sides of his mouth.  

After I learned Reiki, I began using the techniques on Buddy.   Every day I would spend time with Buddy, sitting in the yard, on the porch, or in the garage and I would channel Reiki healing.   As time went on, Buddy improved greatly, and others began to notice the changes in his behavior.   He began to settle down.   Instead of circling my chair, he would lay at my feet.   He became more tranquil.   He could rest.   And then something unthinkable happened.

My sister called me to tell me that Buddy was under her porch, bleeding heavily.  We immediately took Buddy to the vet, who showed us the x-ray results.   Buddy had been shot between the eyes, at close range with a .22 caliber bullet, which had gone through his head and lodged against one of his cervical vertebrae.  The x-ray showed fragments of bone scattered throughout Buddy's head.  There was nothing the vet could do to remove the bullet, and we could not understand why someone would intentionally do this to any animal, much less a loving dog like Buddy.

Amazingly, once the bleeding was stopped, Buddy showed no real signs of trauma and the vet released him to come home after a very short time.   Although the bullet did not kill Buddy, it caused him much pain and discomfort for the rest of his life.   Buddy would rub his head against the ground, sometimes so hard I thought it would dislodge the bullet and either kill or paralyze Buddy instantly.

I continued to channel Reiki healing to Buddy.   If you look carefully at the picture above, you will see that Buddy's hair turned white and he lived to be an "old man".   Buddy had a stroke in the yard from which he could not recover and had to be put to rest.  His eyes pleaded with us to just let him go.  My family stayed with Buddy, and he died in our arms as we stroked his fur and spoke words of encouragement to him.   He was an awesome dog . . . a close member of the family, and a true friend.   I'm so blessed to have had him in my life.   Of all the gifts Buddy gave to me, he was the greatest.  Thank you Buddy.

Energy healing does work for animals.   Although Reiki energy could not remove a .22 caliber bullet, I have no doubt that the Reiki healing Buddy received extended his life span, reduced his pain and discomfort, and greatly improved his overall quality of life.
